Mensaje Collegium of the International Association for Semiotic Studies

I would like to draw your attention – and, in turn, ask you to draw the attention of your colleagues and students – to the work of the IASS Collegium. Set up in 2016 and formally launched at the 13th World Congress in Kaunas, the purpose of the Collegium is to serve as a body of scholarly reference and certification. In many countries, semiotics is still not firmly established academically, and young scholars and faculty, especially, may have difficulty finding senior semioticians who can vouch for the legitimacy and quality of their work, whether they are applying for a scholarship or grant, a postdoctoral post or being considered for a faculty position or promotion.

As can be seen (http://iass-ais.org/collegium/), the Collegium consists of twelve semioticians, recognized scholars in their fields, chosen to be as representative as possible of the different trends and schools of international semiotics.

Please bring to the attention of your colleagues and students the fact that, if they are members of the IASS-AIS, they are eligible to apply for a letter of support from the Collegium, explaining (in English, French, Spanish or German) the nature of their request or project.

The IASS Bureau is committed to supporting future scholars in semiotics across the globe. Applications for Collegium endorsements of grant proposals, job applications, promotions and other scholarly projects in semiotics should be made by email to Karin Boklund-Lagopolouboklund@enl.auth.gr

We look forward to semiotics scholars taking up the benefits of the Collegium wisely, judiciously and extensively.

Best wishes,

Paul Cobley

President of the International Association for Semiotic Studies
